The director of the Center for Local Self-Government, Nikola Jovanovic, said that 503 people were joining the Belgrade City Administration by the end of the year, increasing the administrative staff size by 20 percent.

Jovanovic specified that a total of 3,044 people would be working for the city administration by the end of 2023, whereas the number of employees working on fixed-term contracts would go up from 35 to 71, the Center quoted Jovanovic as saying on Sept. 13.

“it is clear that the massive employment drive by the city bureaucracy was a favour to party activists, warming up the party engine for the upcoming elections,” explained Jovanovic, Belgrade’s former alderman.
