European Commission spokesperson Peter Stano said on Oct. 9 that Serbia was expected to provide full and unconditional cooperation in shedding light on what happened in the village of Banjska, northern Kosovo, on Sept. 24 and who was responsible.

Stano told reporters in Brussels that the EU would decide on its next steps toward Belgrade, Pristina, the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and the region based on those findings.

Asked whom Serbia is to cooperate with in the investigation since it does not recognize Kosovo, Stano replied that where there was a will, there was a way, and that the formalities of recognition or non-recognition should not be used as shields.

According to Stano, there are enough ways to share findings and to cooperate in order to contribute to a full investigation, and what happened on Sept. 24 is so serious that it must be cleared up entirely as there would be consequences.

Stano reiterated that it was the message of the EU high representative, member countries and the entire international community to Belgrade and Pristina that they need to come back to the dialogue, as that is the only feasible way to solve the issue of normalization of relations between the two sides.
