Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated on Nov. 9 that the progress in the fight against corruption and organized crime that was acknowledged in the European Commission’s (EC) report on Serbia was only possible because political will for that existed.
Asked by a reporter to comment on the fact that the EC’s report about Serbia’s progress stated that there was no political will for the fight against corruption and that corruption existed at high levels, Brnabic replied that the report read that the number of investigations and proceedings had increased.
“The report reads that progress had been made in the fight against corruption, but I believe it should have been greater. Progress would have been greater had we adopted the anti-corruption strategy. We have not because we sent it for comments to the European Commission two months ago, which we still haven’t managed to harmonize,” she stated.
The EC’s report on Serbia reads that the country registered a certain level of readiness in the fight against corruption and that limited progress had been made overall, including that pertaining to last year’s recommendations.
