Of the many parties listed on the Aleksandar Vucic – Serbia Must Not Stop ticket for the upcoming parliamentary elections, the Socialist Party of Serbia has been the Progressives most steadfast partner, Socialist leader Ivica Dacic stated on Dec. 14, adding his party’s steering committee has already decided to continue collaborating with the Progressives following the snap vote.
“We have an honest relationship and have put forth a bid for the highest position in executive government. Whether or not this will come to pass depends on the outcome [of the elections.] It is not a prerequisite for further cooperation between the Progressives and Socialists,” Dacic told the latest edition of the NIN weekly.
The incumbent minister of foreign affairs went on to say that it is completely logical that President Vucic is not considering him for the position of prime minister.
“He’s considering a candidate from his own party. That fact should not be used to draw conclusions about the nature of our relationship,” Dacic said, insisting that it is up to Vucic and himself to reach an agreement on who will be assigned what role in the future government.
