The employment of capacities of the weapons factory in Kragujevac is small, debts are growing and contributions for pensions and welfare insurance are not being paid, the Independent Trade Union at Zastava Oruzje stated on Jan. 3.

The union’s president, Dragan Ilic, told BETA that the financial crisis was deepening, losses piling up and liabilities increasing. “This is not at all encouraging. A positive step is that a part of liabilities towards the Republic of Serbia and City of Kragujevac had been converted, so the company’s total liabilities now amount to around 19 billion dinars,” Ilic said.

He stressed that the Independent Trade Union would continue “to insist with the management for bad trends to be reversed” in 2024. Ilic also spoke about problems with the management’s attitude towards the trade union.

“The management has taken a very strict course towards our trade union and the crisis in our relations is deepening,” Ilic stated. He assessed that hard negotiations with the management awaited the Independent Trade Union in 2024, about an increase in wages and fulfilling the employer’s obligations regarding occupational health and safety.
