Dusan Nikezic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)

Dusan Nikezic, a vice president of the Freedom and Justice Party, said in a March 6 comment on the words of Finance Minister Sinisa Mali that "Serbia takes care of every dinar," that the list of overpriced projects financed through fresh borrowing "has no end."

Nikezic noted that the authorities "run all major projects via corrupt deals, outside regular tender procedure, with foreign partners and at the prices significantly above market rates."

To illustrate the point, he mentioned the high-speed road Sombor - Kikinda, the cost of which has jumped from EUR420 million to over two billion euros in four years, as well as the purchase of broadcasting rights for the Premier League for EUR600 million, which, per capita, is "20 times more than in the Middle East, and 35 times more than in China."

Nikezic also said that the Government of Serbia invested two billion euros, a valuable land and infrastructure in exchange for a 32% ownership stake in the Belgrade Waterfront project, whereas the Arab partner got a 68% share for EUR80 million.
