Milos Jovanovic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)

New Democratic Party of Serbia president Milos Jovanovic said on March 28 that representatives of the NADA and Serbia Against Violence coalitions would hold a meeting very soon, but that unless the authorities accepted fair, democratic and honest elections the opposition would not run in them and there would be no election.

Jovanovic told the Vreme weekly that the authorities were doing nothing to revise and control voter rolls and freedom of the press and that he personally was afraid that the authorities would do nothing to enable democratic elections. “Unless the election is fair, there will not be one. Does that mean preventing elections from being held, there are many ideas there,” the leader of the New Democratic Party of Serbia stressed.

He said that the opposition could not accomplish everything on its own and that citizens needed to say enough, because things were slipping toward a serious dictatorship. He added that he generally supported having two opposition columns in the election because “I know many people on the Right who would not accept an election coalition with the Serbia Against Violence coalition."
