Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic stated on Apr. 17 that she was ready to continue the talks with opposition representatives about improving the electoral conditions, and that it was possible for a new meeting to be organized by Apr. 19.

Speaking at a news conference in the Serbian parliament, Brnabic said that she was told explicitly at the meeting with the opposition representatives from the Serbia Against Violence coalition, that they would “certainly not agree now” with holding all local elections on June 2 (when the vote is scheduled in Belgrade).

She said that, during the four meetings with the opposition about improving the electoral conditions, the proposal was accepted to amend the Law on residence and introduce the ability to vote in the newly registered place of residence, six months or a year after the date of registration, which should be considered by a working body.

Brnabic also stated that another accepted proposal was for the introduction of review and control of the voter roster, but not the one about liberating the media from government control, which she explained by stating that she was not “a media editor.”
