The University of Belgrade’s Professional Ethics Committee has issued an official warning to the dean of the Belgrade School of Agriculture, Dusan Zivkovic, over his violation of the Code of Professional Ethics, the Radar weekly published on its website on May 29.

The proceedings were launched because Zivkovic persistently denied Pedology and Geology Department Head Aleksandar Djordjevic access to the documentation on the soil survey conducted for the Rio Tinto mining project.

Djordjevic had previously learned that his name was put on the survey despite the fact that neither he nor another listed colleague had participated in its execution.

According to the Belgrade School of Agriculture’s Statute, no person who has violated the Professional Code of Ethics may serve as dean.

Rio Tinto is planning on building a lithium mine in Western Serbia’s Jadar Valley, which has been met with enormous opposition by environmentalist groups and experts concerned over the project’s toll on the environment.
