Democratic Party leader Zoran Lutovac has said for the RTS public service that the Democratic Party’s steering committee had decided to boycott the elections as far back as Sept. 14, but that it will discuss the conditions for fair and honest elections with the international community. He added that the party presidency had confirmed that decision and that the Democrats will not participate in the dialogue in the Serbian parliament.
“We attended the first three rounds of talks at the School of Political Sciences respecting the good intentions of the organizers, but we saw that there was no progress and that while we were discussing campaigning of state officials in their formal capacity, the Serbian president was opening a section of a new highway,” Lutovac said.
Commenting on an announcement of the Democratic Party’s caucus that it would take part in the dialogue, Lutovac added that the party had decided to boycott these talks and that it expects its MPs to respect that decision.
“The caucus cannot make such decisions. The Democratic Party is not a part of the caucus. The party had made a decision, and its representatives ought to respect it,” Lutovac pointed out.
