Chairwoman of the Serbia-EU Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee Tanja Fajon in a conversation with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic voiced her concern for the freedom of the media in Serbia, but also congratulated Serbia for making a media strategy.
According to a press release from the president's office for cooperation with the media, Fajon said that the European Parliament advocates EU enlargement and that Serbia, as she put it, is among the most serious candidates.
"The European Parliament will continue to actively support the EU enlargement policy and to argue for the Serbian approach as the best way to make progress in European integration," said Fajon.
She added that she expected the European Council to change its decision on North Macedonia and Albania and to send a positive signal to those countries ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Zagreb.
Fajon congratulated Serbia on its economic successes and expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to the European Parliament to mediate a dialogue between the authorities and the opposition.
Vucic, who on Oct. 31 met with representatives of the Parliamentary Committee, described as positive an agreement between the member countries' leaders on the occupants of the most important positions in the European Union and voiced the hope that the EU institutions will in their new composition continue to support Serbia's enlargement policy and European path.
Vucic congratulated Tanja Fajon on her election as head of the European Parliament's delegation with the EU-Serbia Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee.
Vucic underscored that Serbia also welcomed the election of Vladimir Bilcik as new European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia, with thanks to his predecessor David McAllister for his contribution and active support to Serbia's European integration.
"Serbia is in favor of peace and stability in the region, while regional cooperation, strengthening relations with neighbors and a continued reconciliation policy are our foreign policy priorities," Vucic pointed out.
He added that Serbia highly valued the Berlin Process, the importance of which was reflected in, as he put it, supporting the European integration of the Western Balkans through concrete projects and measures.
