U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL

A session of the U.N. Security Council is to be held in New York on Oct. 31, about the latest four-month report of Secretary General Antonio Guterres about Kosovo.

In his report about the work of the U.N. Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) for the period from May 16 to Sept. 15, 2019, Guterres assesses that the long pause in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue had stopped the progress towards normalization of relations, which opened the risk of the undermining of stability in the field.

In the report, Guterres advocates the prompt forming of the new government of Kosovo, so that the dialogue with Belgrade could resume quickly, and the abolishing of all obstacles to the resumption of dialogue.

The representative of Serbia at the session is Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.

Since the adoption of Resolution 1244 on June 10, 1999, the U.N. Security Council has been discussing Kosovo four times per year. It was agreed in February that three sessions on Kosovo would be held in 2019 and two in 2020.
