Kosovo election (Beta/Sasa Djordjevic)
According to preliminary results published by Kosovo’s Central Election Commission, the Serb Ticket won in nine out of ten municipalities with a Serbian majority in the first round of local elections.
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s Self-Determination Movement won in three municipalities, while the Democratic Party of Kosovo gained most of the vote in another three. The Democratic League of Kosovo won in two municipalities, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo in one.
In Glogovac, the Ramiz Ladrovci Citizens’ Group has won, in Mamusa the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo, and in Malisevo the Social Democratic Initiative (NISMA).
The preliminary results, which do not include votes from the expatriate community, show that runoff elections will be held in 17 municipalities on Nov. 9. The main rivals in the run-offs are the Self-Determination Movement and the Democratic League of Kosovo, competing in six municipalities.
Kosovo’s prosecution and police said the elections were conducted “peacefully and without major incidents,” adding that prosecutors received several reports by the time polling stations closed, only two of which contained elements of criminal offenses related to the right to vote.
