Kosovo President Hashim Thaci said he had given another 48 hours to Self-Determination Movement leader Albin Kurti to nominate a premier of a new Kosovo cabinet, noting that after this period he would take other measures envisaged under the Constitution.
According to portal Kosovo online, Thaci has written on his Facebook profile that the Jan. 6 meeting with Kurti is “an important step toward the formation of Kosovo institutions,” adding that the Self-Determination leader was not ready to nominate a premier from his ranks.
“I have just had a brief meeting with Self-Determination Movement leader Albin Kurti in an attempt to honor the will of the citizens expressed in the Oct. 6 elections. The formation of the Kosovo Assembly was the first important step. The formation of a government is of vital importance for the state and citizens of Kosovo,” Thaci has written.
Thaci added that as the Kosovo president, he would “use his constitutional and legal authority to preserve and nurture the political and civil unity and Kosovo’s Euratlantic orientation.”
After meeting Thaci, Kurti said he would nominate a candidate for prime minister in writing after consulting with his party top officials.
