The European Court of Justice began on Dec. 3 hearings in a lawsuit filed by Slovenia against the European Commission.

Slovenia is suing the EC for approving Croatia’s usage of the name “teran,” which is the name of a protected red wine in Slovenia. Slovenia launched the lawsuit on Sept. 15, 2017 due to the EC’s decision to allow Croatia to use the name “teran” in certain conditions for a grape used to make wine in Croatia’s Istra region, B92 has reported.

Ljubljana is arguing that the EC’s decision to allow the Croatian wines to have the name “Hrvatska Istra” printed in bigger letters than “teran”  was illegal and could confuse buyers and harm Slovenian producers of the wine.
