Associate Professor Vladimir Mihic of the School of Philosophy in Novi Sad lost his job last week over his support for students who revolted against Aleksandar Vucic’s government in late 2024. Several months before Mihic, his peer, Jelena Kleut, had been removed from the same school – the management offered a different reason, but it was actually the same – her public engagement against Vucic’s rule. The move against two respected professors at the University of Novi Sad is clearly to intimidate their colleagues, but it is also an act of retaliation by Vucic’s government, unlikely to end here.
