Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic said on July 1 that the peak of the coronavirus epidemic that is being mentioned in Serbia these days “is not actually the peak,” adding that “the real one” will be reached in five to six days, because it is measured from the events that may have caused it – sports matches and birthday, wedding and other parties.

“If there have been many of them – and there have been many – you have to take into account the incubation period of seven to 10 days, 14 at the most. Only when this period passes – and that will not be before the end of the week – can we say we are on the safe side, but a new peak may reoccur,” Tiodorovic told the RTS public service.

He also said that the virus is present and there are no arguments to prove it is weakening, and that we can only say the number of the people who can spread it is diminishing.

According to him, the situation in Vranje is less favorable, but that the serious measures that are applied are leading to a situation that is “volatile, but under control.”

Tiodorovic also said that news from the Clinical Center in Nis appear good, adding that there are 61 coronavirus patients currently hospitalized there, four of whom are on ventilators, and that there have been no sick children there for the past several days.
