The Serbian embassy in Athens has received an official notice that Greece is closing its borders to Serbian citizens on July 6, the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed for BETA.

The closure notice arrived in the embassy from the office of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Serbian Minister of Tourism, Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic said before that Greece planned to close its borders to Serbian citizens on July 6 as Serbia's epidemiological situation has worsened, the B92 portal quoted the minister as saying.

Ljajic also said the ban would go into force at 6 a.m. on July 6.

Media reports say that Serbian tourists already in Greece will be allowed to finish their stays.

Greece reopened its borders on July 1, and Serbia was included on its list of states outside the European Union (EU) whose citizens are allowed to enter Greece, but only through Bulgaria and the Promachonas border crossing. Serbian nationals were also expected to present a Passenger Locator Form, filled in 48 hours before they reached the border, and accept random Covid-19 testing on arrival.
