Another protest rally was held in Belgrade in the evening of July 12, at which the citizens gathered for the sixth night in a row in front of the national parliament building to protest against the announced new COVID-19-related restrictive measures. The rally passed without incidents and attracted noticeably fewer participants than in the previous nights.

There were no speakers at the gathering and the protestors, standing in groups, carried posters and occasionally shouted slogans against the authorities.

Some of the protestors sang songs about Kosovo, shouting they “will not give up [their] shrines,” and blowing into trumpets and whistles, but there was no tension.

The parliament building was guarded by a few police units, with a few more inside and behind the building.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic asked the citizens on July 12 to withhold from gathering so that Serbia can fight off COVID-19, adding that he is certain the contagion will be contained within the next 20 days.

During his appearance on Pink TV he asked the citizens to be “disciplined and responsible,” even though, according to his estimate, “no more than 4,100 people” had gathered at the most in the previous days.

Protests were also held in Novi Sad, Cacak, Nis and Zrenjanin.
