Branislav Tiodorovic, an epidemiologist and member of the Serbian Crisis Headquarters tasked with dealing with COVID-19, said on Aug. 16 that influenza vaccination should begin from Oct. 1 in the country to avoid overlap with COVID.

Tiodorovic told Palma TV that this was "a big job that needs to be done," which is why he favors starting vaccination as early as Oct. 1. "We need to do that vaccination so the two viruses don't mix - regular flu and corona, so we don't have the flu and corona at the same time. That would be terrible," Tiodorovic warned.

He went on to say that "that tragic situation happened in Italy this March, when the corona outbreak piggybacked off a flu epidemic there, and it was horrifically bad, with huge loss of human life."

He said the start of the school year would be a crucial moment, a test for the education system and all of society. "We must prepare and be responsible. Parents and education workers both. We can demand good cooperation from children, we can educate them well, and the health care system must help," Tiodorovic told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation.
