A representative of the organization For the Record, Dragoslava Barzut, said on Dec. 7 that since the beginning of the year 430 LGBT people, as well as their family and friends, had approached her team to report violence or discrimination.

Promoting a report, "Statistics, Not Bells and Whistles," at a press conference, Barzut said that out of that number 50.2 percent wanted advise, and 9.2 reported physical assaults.

"The problem is that the incidents are under-reported, and the motive behind them is largely unknown. When such incidents are reported, they are reported as regular crimes, not hate crimes," one of the authors of the report, Nikola Planojevic, explained to reporters.

The other reporter, Milos Kovacevic, said that only "every third case is visible to the authorities." He said that just under one half of the incidents involved physical violence, with or without bodily injuries, and that psychological violence and discrimination were next on the list.
