Tatjana Manojlovic, head of the Democratic Party Information Committee, said on May 5 that the staff of the N1 TV station was again targeted by opposition supporters, adding that pressure on the media offering airtime to opinions different from those promoted by the ruling party must end immediately.

“We condemn any form of pressure on professional journalists and are very concerned that N1 is again targeted by regime supporters who are encouraged by hate messages and insults disseminated by the media controlled by the ruling party,” Manojlovic said in a written statement.

According to her, the Democratic Party will be at the head of any non-violent resistance to absolutist rule, whose dominant feature is the forming of public opinion by putting target signs on the backs of the people not sharing its views and those who cannot be manipulated.

She recalled that it is not the first time that unknown perpetrators are putting up signs on the fence in front of that media house and trying to intimidate its staff, and that not one report to the police has had an outcome.

“The fact that the sign saying ‘Goodbye from the Republic of Serbia, N1, welcome to Luxembourg’ appeared on the fence in front of that TV station only a day after World Press Freedom Day and that the perpetrators who placed it are still unknown, as are those who did the same in the past, speaks volumes about the freedom of media and safety of journalists and editors in Serbia,” Manojlovic said.
