A prominent Serbian journalist, Slavisa Lekic, said on May 24 that two decades after its wars Serbia was still a post-conflict society, unable to move forward, stuck in the "quagmire" that Milosevic's "shock-workers" and Seselj's Radical political descendants had left behind.

Lekic, whose latest documentary series "The Heroes of an Evil Era" will be aired by N1 TV on May 25, said in a comment for BETA that not only Serbia had failed to face its past, but with its eyes closed shut to it, remained trapped in history, lingering on the outskirts of a democratic world.

"We live under gloomy, horrendous repression, with our institutions captured and the judiciary instrumentalized. We live in an era of spins and propaganda, creating mental suffering for those they were not directly targeted at as well. The only difference between this and Milosevic's era is that there's no military aggression this time - be it Serbia's aggression to the outer world or one by those who declared the then Serbian leader (Milosevic) a factor of peace in the Balkans," Lekic has warned.

From 2016 to 2018 Lekic was the president of the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS). His contributions since the 1980s have been famous for sharp, disputatious writing. Lekic is a very active Twitter user, too, offering daily comments on political developments in Serbia.
