The U.S. ambassador in Belgrade, Anthony Godfrey, said on July 2 at an Independence Day Reception that he hosted at the embassy that today Serbia had no better friend than the United States.

"With one billion euros in aid since 2001, we've been working with local partners to help Serbia achieve its goal to join the European Union (EU). We want Serbia it to take its rightful place in the European family," Godfrey said.

The reception was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, Speaker Ivica Dacic, Serbia's ministers, Serbian Orthodox Church patriarch Porfirije, Public Attorney Zagorka Dolovac, opposition party leaders, media and civil society representatives.
