Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on Aug. 5 that the arrest of Veljko Belivuk’s gang was a product of joint work of the Serbian national agencies – the Serbian police, the Security Intelligence Agency and the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime, and that the FBI had nothing to with it.

During the meeting with the heads of the Criminal Police Directorate, Vulin said that it was obvious that some people in the country and the region were bothered by the gang’s arrest which is why those same people had been using “untruths and lies” to attack Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and him.

The sole responsibility for breaking up the crime group lies with the Serbian prosecuting authorities, Vulin affirmed. By apprehending the gang members, the Serbian forces had shown that they were ready to face even the cruelest criminal groups, Vulin said and added that that is why he would not allow anyone to belittle the work of the Serbian professionals.

“By putting your lives on the line, you’ve done away with the Belivuk-Miljkovic gang and liberated Serbia from this evil. Today, some people are trying to belittle your accomplishments and ascribe them to the work of foreign agencies, although they themselves know just how professional you are and that the breaking up this group is solely your work,” Vulin concluded.
