Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has said that if Serbia removed its measures against Kosovo, it would actually mean it has recognized Kosovo’s independence.

According to Vucic, it is what Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti indicated when saying that he would scrap the measure on not recognizing car plates issued in Serbia once Serbia removed its measures.

“He (Kurti) says – ‘well, everything is fine, we are calm and good, you just need to remove your measures.’ What measures? To scrap the measures that Serbia is a sovereign state, while Kosovo is not a sovereign state? When we remove those measures, Kosovo will be an independent country and it would mean that Serbia has recognized Kosovo as an independent county,” Vucic told reporters in Budapest in the evening on Sept. 22.

Vucic further said that Brussels could organize “whatever they want,” referring to a meeting of him and Kurti, stressing that “I will not agree to what they think I will agree to.”

On Sept. 22, Kurti said that the Kosovo government was interesting in reaching a lasting solution for the freedom of movement of the citizens “of two countries,” adding he would withdraw the decision if the Serbian side did the same.

In Budapest Vucic has been attending the fourth Budapest Demographic Summit.  In Hungary’s capital, Vucic is also scheduled to meet with the prime ministers of Hungary, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, Viktor Orban, Janez Jansa and Andrej Babis, respectively.
