Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said at a June 1 meeting with Ukraine’s new ambassador to Seria, Volodymyr Tolkach, that Serbia was prepared to extend any kind of humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable population of Ukraine, and to take part in the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.

Minister Selakovic said that to the civilians fleeing their homes in Ukraine Serbia had “offered the best possible terms, including the rights to work permits, under the same rules as applied by the EU member states, and even at a higher level,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Selakovic as saying in a press release.

The minister said that Belgrade was committed to peaceful conflict resolution, supporting any effort to facilitate negotiations. The authorities in Belgrade also cherish respect for the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and in that regard Serbia honors the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Selakovic recalled that his country had been exposed to an unprincipled position by a part of the world as regards the unilaterally proclaimed independence of the so-called Kosovo, thanking Ukraine for respecting the territorial integrity of Serbia.
