If they want to, the authorities have the possibility to change the public's opinion about foreign political issues, although the hard core will always remain unchanged. In that, there is also a "factor of long duration" that affects the people's views.

"If the parties in power have such interest, they can facilitate visible changes in the people's foreign political views in a matter of few months, but there will always be those who keep their unwavering opinion," historian Slobodan Markovic told Demostat on July 20, explaining that this could be followed in public opinion polls since the 1960s.

In his words, propaganda in Serbia in the past ten years was characteristic for three things – celebrating of Serbia, which is depicted as disproportionately significant compared with its size and economic power, the permanent disputing of the West and presenting it as part of a conspiracy against our country, and depicting of Russia as the defender of Serbia and Orthodox Christianity.

"This propaganda is consistent and creates an illusion of stable support to Russia, while the anti-west campaign has been increasing since 2012. However, any change in the foreign political orientation would quickly reflect on the public opinion," Markovic stated.
