Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sept. 17 that Serbia “will not give Kosovo and Metohija away, nor an inch of our homeland to anyone.”

During a promotional ceremony for Army of Serbia junior officers in Belgrade, the president said that those threatening Serbia “are completely unable to understand our resolve to protect what is ours.”

Vucic reiterated that Serbia would maintain its neutral military status, recalling that the Army of Serbia wanted peace, because armies had the best understanding of what war was. “Only an army arising from the people was capable of defending [the country] valiantly during two world wars…Serbia appreciates its army and knows how important it is. We could see this when we fought disastrous floods, and when makeshift hospitals had to be built quickly,” the president said during the ceremony which was held outside the Parliament of Serbia.

Vucic promised that the state “will do everything” to improve the standard of living of Serbian soldiers. “After a long time, the army is procuring the most sophisticated weapons and equipment. We want young people like you to plan their future in their home country. We will continue to build an even stronger military industry and expand the spectrum of its products as well,” Vucic said.
