With a possible delay of the start of heating season in Serbia amid a drop in air temperature, citizens could resort to irrational electricity consumption, which would jeopardize the stability of the energy system, the director of the Association of District Heating Systems in Serbia (Toplane Srbije), Dejan Stojanovic, has said.

He recalled that the official start date of heating season was Oct. 15, that overhauls had been in the final phase and that district heating plants were obliged to submit overhaul reports by Oct. 1.

“At a meeting of representatives of district heating plants, it was concluded that enough fuel has been ensured for the start of heating season. One third of total quantities of natural gas is stored in Banatski Dvor gas storage and in a storage facility in Hungary. The start of heating season will go with no problems,” Stojanovic said. He noted that if the average daily temperature dropped below12 degrees Celsius over one, two or three days, heating season could start earlier, that is, on Oct. 1.
