The commander of the 250th AA Missile Brigade, Brigadier General Tiosav Jankovic, said that the moment China’s HQ-22 system was presented it became “operational.”

“The Army of Serbia units equipped with the HQ-22 system have been included in a system of control and protection of Serbia’s air space, meaning that the equipment is functional and that the crew is trained to use the system,” Jankovic said in an interview with the Politika daily, published on Nov. 23.

General Jankovic explained that “before the HQ-22 the operational range of national defense systems was between 20 and 25 kilometers, as opposed to the current multichannel system that can destroy targets up to 100 kilometers away.” “Besides, the system can target air-to-surface missiles as well,” Jankovic said in the interview.

According to the military official, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have dominated the world of air defense systems over the past decade. “The last breakthrough in the field is the development of miniature UAVs, especially so-called suicide drones, which are hardly visible in the electromagnetic spectrum, accurate and lethal,” the general explained.
