During a special session of the Belgrade City Assembly on Nov. 29, called at the request of oppositional aldermen, a vote was held to remove Aleksandar Sapic as mayor of the capital. Of the city’s 110 representatives, 44 voted in favor of the motion and one was against it.

The representatives from the Serbian Progressive Party and Socialist Party of Serbia abstained.

“The motion to remove the [current] mayor of Belgrade was not supported by the necessary majority of aldermen, that is, it was not passed,” said committee president Nemanja Joksimovic, from the Progressive party.

Assembly Speaker Nikola Nikodijevic recalled that the motion to remove Sapic from office cannot be re-submitted in less than six months from the day it was denied.
