The Serbian and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) energy ministers, Dubravka Djedovic and Suhail Al Mazrouei respectively, had agreed in Abu Dhabi to sign a Memorandum of cooperation on developing hydrogen as a new fuel and continue cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources, the Serbian Ministry said in a release on Jan. 17.

The two ministers said that bilateral cooperation in the energy sector was on the rise and that the next step would be exchange of experience and expert and technical know-how in use of hydrogen as a fuel.

“The UAE has know-how, modern technologies and developed companies which, based on friendly ties between our two countries and their leaders, President Aleksandar Vucic and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have already been operating in Serbia in the field of renewable energy sources and can be important partners in further development in this sector, but also in development of green hydrogen and blue hydrogen as new fuels in our power system,” Djedovic said, according to the release.

On Jan. 17, Djedovic addressed a ministerial panel within Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023, which gathered heads of states, cabinet representatives, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders to discuss climate action and innovation.

“Despite all the challenges triggered by the energy crisis, Serbia has managed to maintain stability in electricity and gas supply at the prices which are affordable to citizens and do not jeopardize competitiveness of the economy,” Djedovic stressed. She also said that the state had been working toward improving the legal framework which should enable more investments in the renewable energy sector, noting that priorities included further development of energy infrastructure and interconnecting with the neighbors.
