Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic Radman said in Subotica on Jan. 28 that supporting Serbia in its bid to join the European Union was in Croatia's interest, but that Belgrade had to meet the criteria for membership.

Supporting Serbia on its European path is in Croatia's interest, but a conversation is needed on the criteria that need to be met -- the rule of law, minority rights, missing persons, processing war crimes, Grlic Radman told reporters after meeting with his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic.

Grlic Radman said improving Serbian-Croatian relations was in the interest of both peoples, and that it would be a sign of political maturity, especially in times of crisis.

"In the interest of the citizens we must work and work together, for politics is an exceptionally responsible discipline, and improvement of relations, good neighborly relations, is just what our citizens expect, because it is a manifestation of political maturity, especially in the present crisis situations in our surroundings," Grlic Radman told reporters.
