Serbia has no intention of waging war, but if it did, “not even a million Javelins would help Kosovo,” Serbian Foreign Minister and Socialist Party of Serbia leader Ivica Dacic told Pink TV late on Jan. 14.

The statement came in response to U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill’s announcement that his country will be supplying Kosovo with FGM-148 Javelins: portable, shoulder-fired anti-tank weapons.

This decision should not be viewed as an isolated incident, Dacic stressed, but rather as merely another act in “the strategic, long-term partnership to help Kosovo’s independence.” “One should bear in mind everything that has happened from 1999 onward. That same U.S., and others, were the ones to provide arms for the Kosovo Liberation Army. Now they’re doing it again,” the minister said.

The goal of arming Kosovo, Dacic added, is clearly “to strengthen Kosovo’s independence by strengthening its security capacities.”

This is in violation of U.N.S.C. Resolution 1244, he underlined, but insisted Serbia has no way of stopping it.
