The founder of We – The Voice of the People group of citizens, Branimir Nestorovic, has dismissed the possibility of the group’s aldermen providing backing to a future Belgrade government and instead called for holding new local city elections.
Nestorovic told the Feb. 20 issue of Belgrade daily Danas, that he had “no control” over two of his group’s aldermen, Aleksandar Jerkovic and Vesna Ilic, who had severed all contacts with We – The Voice of the People. Nestorovic also said he suspected that those two had engaged in some talks with representatives of the Serbian Progressive Party.
“I do not know how many times I have to repeat that we have formed a group for not to provide support to neither of the political blocs, because we believe none is good,” Nestorovic stressed. He also said that the responsibility had been shifted to We – The Voice of the People with some saying that unless the group joined the city government, they would put the state at risk. Nestorovic noted that he could not understand who was threatening the city or in which way the state was in danger.
