Branimir Nestorovic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC)
The controversial leader of the We - the Power of the People movement, Branimir Nestorovic, said on June 16 that the chances of his winning a presidential election in Serbia are slim but he is confident he would nonetheless achieve a good result and "break the dichotomy" of the Serbian Progressive Party and the rebel students.
He told the Danas daily that he is considering running for president of the state and said that the incumbent president, Aleksandar Vucic, does not have an adequate candidate for that position, seeing as he himself cannot run again because this is his second term in office.
"The dichotomy needs to be broken. There are many people who support neither the Serbian Progressive Party nor the students (...) I do not believe I can win while elections are determined by Vucic and the EU, but I can achieve a good result and launch a party," claims Nestorovic who, despite being a medical doctor, has in the past publicly spoken out against vaccination and claimed that people with green and blue eyes were the product of the mixing of humans and aliens in the past.
Previously, leader of the non-parliamentary Serbian Radical Party, Vojislav Seselj, also announced the possibility of running in the next presidential election.
The second presidential term of current Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will expire in early 2027 and he does not have the right to run for president again.
