Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke on the phone with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on May 13, with whom, as the president put it, he had “a good and open exchange of opinions on all issues of mutual interest,” including the situation in Kosovo, economic cooperation and European integrations.

The Serbian president said in an Instagram post that he “briefed Chancellor Scholz thoroughly on the almost unbearable situation of the Serb community in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as on Pristina’s repeated refusals to fulfil the obligations it had accepted and signed, the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities in the first place.”

“I have underlined that on that path, not always easy, we need help from our partners, like Germany, and that we count on continued support to European integration, as well as concrete incentives that would provide a fresh momentum for the reform process and new energy for candidate countries on the path to the European Union,” Vucic said in his post.

The president went on to say that an exchange of opinions took place during the phone conversation with the German chancellor “on all delicate matters in the context of global developments,” adding that they had placed a strong emphasis on “the place and role of Serbia in the protection of peace and stability in the region,” as well its accession to the Union. Vucic said he had reiterated that Serbia was committed to intensifying diplomatic activities regarding the ongoing conflicts and open issues weighing heavily on Europe and the Western Balkans, and that it had demonstrated it in various initiatives and forums.
