Get Going for Change Movement (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)

The Get Going for Change movement’s chapter in Nis argued on July 3 that it’s naive to believe that justice could be delivered by courts "in an occupied state," suggesting that aside from taking the path of the law, protests, too, should have been employed to defend Nis, articulating well-grounded demands immediately after the elections, and before the holiday season.

"Taking the path of law, combined with protests articulating clear demands, is the only strategy that has proven effective against this regime. Successes in protecting the Stara Planina river, parks and green areas, and the stoppage of the Rio Tinto project, prove it," the movement’s Nis chapter stated.

The June elections were the most irregular of all, yet the citizens of Nis voted for change, or rather, for the opposition, the opposition group claims. "Four opposition tickets won a majority of the vote, but election engineering came into play, voting records have been manipulated and a minority phantom ticket used, making it possible for the authorities to adjust the election results," Get Going for Change explained.

The organization also said that consultations with other opposition parties in Nis would Continue, so that they could plan further actions together.
