Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, who is currently in Washington, has said that Serbia's presence at a NATO summit in the U.S. capital did not mean a shift in its political course, but that it is important that it has a representative at the event because this is in its interest.
"We have been lobbying for Serbia's position in the western part of the international community in Washington these days, we are discussing with our friends how to strengthen our economic, political, security and all other relations with this part of the world," Djuric told reporters in the Serbian Embassy.
Djuric said that during his stay in Washington he had briefly talked to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and that he invited him to visit Serbia.
"We need dialogue on the highest political level with the U.S., not only to continue the growth and development of our economy, as the U.S. is our number one partner in terms of services in the area of high technology, but because we need this cooperation also for the questions that we do not agree on, like the question of the status of Kosovo and Metohija which cannot be positively solved, without our active engagement... at the highest political level in the U.S.," Djuric was quoted as saying by the Voice of America.
