Since the beginning of the year, Serbia’s Institute for Public Health has recorded 181 cases of measles caused by insufficient vaccination, said Milunka Milinkovic, an epidemiologist at the Institute.
In a statement for Pink TV, Milinkovic explained that most cases of the illness occurred in Belgrade, adding that the majority of patients comprise children aged four and younger, who were mostly unvaccinated.
The situation in Serbia, she added, is “somewhat better” than in the region, with Romania having recorded over 15,000 so far, and around 4,000 cases reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Milinkovic concluded by calling on parents to fully vaccinate their children in a timely fashion.
