Srdjan Milivojevic, a Democratic Party MP, has said that anyone who fails to join the camp standing under “the flag of freedom that has already been unfurled” and to resist the lithium project of mining corporation Rio Tinto was not a member of the opposition in Serbia, stressing that everyone in Serbia is facing a choice – “Serbia or Rio Tinto backed by the Serbian Progressive Party mafia.”

“This is not a battle for power, this is not a battle among political parties. Only together, in a broad front and unanimously with community and citizens associations and all political parties regardless of their ideological differences, and hand in hand with activists and angry citizens can we prevail against the looming evil that is threatening to wipe our country off the map,” Milivojevic told the July 29 issue of Belgrade daily Nova.

Commenting on the request of Marinika Tepic, the Freedom and Justice Party whip in the Serbian parliament, seeking a snap parliamentary election, Milivojevic said he much appreciated the work of Tepic and her party, but added he was sure that an election was not a way to deal with this new crisis.

“I have been witnessing it every day. You have seen (the protest) in Valjevo, you will hear thunders coming from Sabac, you will hear roars from across Serbia. The slogan ‘You Will Not Mine’ will secure a victory long before the elections,” Milivojevic stressed.
