Protest Novi Sad (BETAPHOTO/DRAGAN GOJIC)
Several thousand people gathered in front of the School Authority in Novi Sad on Feb. 12, at a protest rally organized by an informal group called “Teachers for Students,” from where they called for a general strike in Serbia.
Earlier in the day, students, teachers, pupils and IT sector employees set off towards the School Authority from different locations in the city. After arriving, at 11:52 a.m., they stood in silence in front of the building for 15 minutes, paying homage to the 15 people killed in the collapse of the concrete canopy at the city’s Railway Station.
In front of the stage, the protesters displayed the names of the people who perished in that tragedy and held banners reading: “We have stopped, what about you?” “It’s not artistic to remain silent,” “IT blockade Novi Sad” and “Freedom loves the brave.”
The rally ended with an invitation to a large students’ rally in Kragujevac, on Feb. 15, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
