On March 17, in response to the alleged use of a sonic weapon at the March 15 massive Belgrade protest rally, opposition parties announced they will file criminal complaints against top state officials and mentioned the possibility of “serious forms of civil disobedience,” such as institutional blockades, roadblocks and a general strike.

According to the Freedom and Justice Party, by employing the sonic weapon, the regime consciously endangered the public with the clear intent to cause chaos and injury – at a time, no less, when the protestors were peacefully commemorating the victims of the Nov. 1, 2024 Novi Sad Railway Station accident with 15 minutes of silence.

“Although regime official and MP Vladimir Djukanovic immediately stated it was a sonic weapon – exposing the regime – [the authorities] soon began unconvincingly denying everything and enlisted the chief of Belgrade’s Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, Nenad Stefanovic, to protect the attackers and pursue the victims. All this is yet further proof that [Serbia’s] judiciary is non-existent. All that exists is the regime’s terror,” the Freedom and Justice Party concluded.

New Democratic Party leader Milos Jovanovic stated that it is high time to commence serious civil disobedience because the marches and large rallies have, so far, proven to be an ineffective way of combating the regime.
