Since the Nov. 1, 2024 collapse of a concrete canopy at Novi Sad’s central railway station killed 16 people, everything the regime has done – from its treatment of the protesting university students to how it handled the massive March 15 rally in Belgrade – has demonstrated the authorities’ inability to manage social crises, political consultant Dusan Milenkovic said on March 24.

“They’ve displayed this impotence over the past years as well, but it has now escalated,” Milenkovic told the Nova daily.

With regards to the ongoing student protests, which will soon enter their fifth month, Milenkovic stated that the regime’s key mistake was to enter into a direct conflict with a social group “unburdened by the past and with endless time, energy and creativity to persevere in its fight.”
