Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret said on May 8 that Serbia's geostrategic orientation should clearly be toward the Union, that on May 9 one should be in Ukraine rather than in Moscow, and that it could be seen that many citizens were demanding change in the streets of Belgrade and Serbia.

Speaking as a guest on a show on public broadcaster RTS, Giaufret said that May 9 was Europe Day and Europe had been building a project of peace, prosperity and democracy for 75 years.

The Union is based on key values and must be capable of protecting citizens and bringing prosperity to its citizens, said Giaufret, stressing that this was particularly important today when war had returned to European soil.

He also said that the fact the Red Army together with Ukrainians had liberated Belgrade should not be forgotten, but that we must understand what is happening today: "Today, unfortunately, we have a war of aggression that is destroying Ukraine and Ukrainians are defending themselves."

"I think today one should be in Ukraine, not in Moscow," said Giaufret, answering the host's question about Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's visit to Moscow for the May 9 military parade.
