The authorities' announcement that Serbia will open an embassy in Latvia which would be a "point of contact" with the states that are skeptical of Serbia's European path is proof of "the ludicrous ideas and complete lack of knowledge and the gall" of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, former diplomat and deputy president of the opposition Freedom and Justice Party Borko Stefanovic has said.

Stefanovic said in a news release that there was no embassy that could explain to anyone that the only problem was a lack of alignment of Serbia's policy with that of the EU, when "all of Europe knows the regime steals elections, sends thugs against students and citizens and destroys the rule of law."

He also said that President Aleksandar Vucic "has halted life in Serbia by conducting all-out theft, violence and arrests of opponents" and that he had definitely moved Serbia away from any normalcy or European road.
