The observer mission of the Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA) will observe the forthcoming local elections in Kosjeric and Zajecar, while the Center for Free and Democratic Elections (CeSID) will not.

On June 4, CRTA confirmed for BETA that they would observe the elections, while CeSID has announced that they would not observe the local elections in Zajecar and Kosjeric on Sunday, June 8. CRTA’s two missions will observe, throughout the day, the events in each of the 29 polling stations in Kosjeric and 69 in Zajecar – two observers inside and two in front of each polling station. Specialized mobile teams will also be on the ground and all observers will be in permanent contact with the organization’s legal team, it was announced earlier on CRTA’s web-site.

CeSID has announced that, since their founding, the policy of that non-governmental organization has been not to observe the local elections, outside of their overlapping with the national or general elections, because, due to resource constrictions, it could not be guaranteed that elections could be observed in all municipalities and cities.

“A significant reason for the non-observation of the elections in Zajecar and Kosjeric is the matter of the budget, i.e. the great challenges faced by the civil society in Serbia, including CeSID,” the statement reads.
