Ana Brnabic, the speaker of the Serbian parliament and an official of the Serbian Progressive Party, said on June 16 that there would be no government "counterrally" in Belgrade on June 28 -- Vidovdan (St Vitus' Day), a day for which a student protest has already been called.

Brnabic told Pink TV that she had heard countless times that the Serbian Progressive Party would hold a counterrally, but that it had never done so and never would.

"There will be no counterrally, but on the other hand, I as a representative of legislative authority have to say that it will not be permitted for anyone to attack others, students, youths who just want to learn and be educated. Attacks on them will not be permitted," she said.

"Using a holiday like Vidovdan for such things is the last thing we would want to do, a holiday we honor above anything, whose purpose for us is for messages of unity, mutual respect, protecting our people in Kosovo and Metohija, protecting our churches and monasteries," Brnabic said.
