It is not true that the authorities are carrying out repression against universities, but the Government cannot let higher education institutions be occupied, Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut said on July 18.
"It is high time [students] realized the reality, that there should be talks and a return to a regular situation. No one is carrying out repression, all such statements are untrue. Faculties are obligated to call law enforcement organs to intervene if necessary. We cannot allow some universities to be occupied," Macut told public broadcaster RTS.
He also said he hoped reason would prevail and that professors should "push the whole thing forward" by personal example.
